Every journey starts with a single step…

…and mine has taken some unexpected turns.

Love Those Locs

I’ve had natural hair for most of my life. I had traditional locs for twelve years, followed by a year of loose natural hair, and then Sisterlocks, twice.
I believed my second set of Sisterlocks, established in December 2018, were here to stay but sometimes life has other plans.

The photograph that changed my mind

The trigger came, in December 2025, in the form of a photograph, of my crown area. I had just had a retightening, but what I saw in that photograph was more than just the usual scalpy look of a fresh reti. It showed that my crown area was thinning. And it shocked me into action. I have not had a reti since.

Combining my Sisterlocks

Since then, I have been combining my Sisterlocks to maintain the health of my hair and grow thicker locs without the need for retightenings. I’ve been documenting this journey on YouTube and now on this blog.

I’m sharing my learnings along the way as I try different loc combining methods, and experiment with how best to care for my health and scalp. It’s very much a learning experience. I hope you’ll find something useful here and on the Love Those Locs YouTube channel – that you can use in your own journey.💜
